Annapurna Circuit Day 5

Tal to Bagarchap
This was a short and easy 3 hour day with some great views of the snow capped peaks yet to come.  Unfortunately, we had to stop so soon because Ashley's feet developed more blisters.  Fortunately, there was a "health post" in the village so we stopped by for some band aids...or so we thought.  Here's the story: after asking around for the health post, we were directed to a wooden building on stilts with a simple ladder leading to the second level.  This is where I can get band aids?? Oh boy....A "doctor" sits me (Ashley) down and instructs me (hand signals, no english) to take off my socks so he can inspect my feet.  He process to swab them with Betadine, the old fashioned orange/red stuff that kills germs, but only bandages one of my five blisters.  He then takes out an assortment of medicine and tries to convince us that we need all of it.  What he has for us is stomach medicine, vitamin b, something for healthy vitality and life and a mysterious black pill.  After several minutes of saying NO, those have NOTHING to do with blisters, he charges us an obscene amount and we leave with nothing but some gauze.  We hobble to the nearest guesthouse and decide that this story, though frustrating, is quite hilarious and we won't let the witch doctor robbing get us down!!

  1. I can't believe that doctor wanted to give you all that medicine for blisters... Thanks so much for these (long awaited!!!) posts. Hope all's well on your end.

  2. Unless you've traveled off the beaten path, it's hard to even imagine what it's like to be in a place where you can't just buy bandaids. Hope her feet feel better soon!
